Geryon

The Tenth Labour Of Heracles

Geryon is a monster mentioned in the tenth labour of Heracles. There are two versions of this horrendous herder. The one that Heracles has to battle is describe as a monster with 3 bodies, each with arms, heads and are join at the waist. It has a draconian-like body from the waist downward and have six legs. The other representation of Geryon is describe by Dante in his book The Inferno. He describe this creature as having a human head, bat-winged with a pair of talon hands and a serpentine body that ended with a scorpion stinger.

In the Twelve Labours of Heracles, he is tasked with the seemingly impossible mission of capturing the rubicund cattles of Geryon. Not only does the intrepid muscle-man has to slay the monstrous giant's herdsman, known as Eurytion, a centaur and also his ferocious 2 headed guard dog known as Orthrus. As both the centaur and the 2 headed hound came charging at Heracles, he toss his club; hitting the chest of Eurytion & grab each head of Orthrus with his powerful hands and tore the dog into 2 halves, killing it instantly. He then proceeded to kill the wounded herdsman.

The arduous journey and battling the 2 monsters already sap a significant amount of energy from the hero and he still has to eliminate the much more formidable draconian giant, Geryon. Though Geryon is a giant but he is agile and fast, Heracles was unable to hit the 3 bodies but instead has to use hand- to-hand combat and use the arrow which had been dip in the poisonous blood of the hydra. As Geryon's dragon-like body is being shielded by impenetrable scales, Heracles has to stab the back of the main body, allowing the potent poison of the hydra to kill the monster. Though Heracles succeeded in obtaining the cattles, the journey ahead to drive them back was fraught with obstacles and would eventually take the strongman almost a year to heard them back to Eurystheus who eventually sacrificed all the cattles to the goddess Hera.

About My Web-page....

Afew months back, I would not even have dream that its possible to create my own website not to mentioned of completion of those artworks that've been accumulated over the years. Its sort a like...I've body parts of various mythical creatures strawn all over my place. I'm a self-taught artist and I have totally no prior knowldege of the languages for creating a website; I have to grope around and stumble afew times before I can actually put up afew sentences. Thus its no surprise that I doubted my ability to put my artworks in the web for the public to see. It was last year that I've gain encouragements and supports through various channel in the internet that I've started to put the pieces of my arts together.

You see, sometimes I would have these strange visions or ideas that 'pop'up from nowhere, and the mechanical pencil seem to lead me to doodle out the facial features and then the head of some strange beasts, all the creatures that I've created starts from the head, but its achieving that pose and masculature that I'm satisfy with and the eventual body of the monster that I find the most challenging and difficult to do.

With the setting up of this gallery, I hope that more people will get to see, be interested and appreciate but not feared the strange and mythical creatures that we've forgotten. Hopefully, I can get feedbacks and interaction from people with the same interests and also share knowldeges of other creatures that I might not know.

Thankyou for your time in visiting and reading this articles.
